Pritam’s Biography :

Pritam Chakraborty was born on 14 June 1971. He is better known as Pritam, his stage name. Pritam Chakraborty is a Bollywood singer (vocalist), electronic guitarist, music composer, instrumentalist, and record producer.

Anuradha Chakraborty and Prabodh Chakraborty raised Pritam in a Bengali family of white collar workers. Pritam learnt to play the guitar while still in school and had his early musical training from his father.

Pritam’s Education :

Pritam withdrew out of his M.Sc. studies in 1993 to pursue a career of his own choosing at FTII, Pune, where he took up Sound Recording and Engineering in 1994 after finishing his schooling at St. James’ School and graduating in Geology from Presidency College in 1992. During this period, he was approached by Hungarian filmmaker Istvan Gaal, who offered him the opportunity to compose background music for a film.

Pritam’s Early life :

Pritam joined Chandrabindoo, a Bangla band. Prior to that, he created another band called “Jotugriher Pakhi” with his Presidency classmates, for whom he played the guitar. At the time, they even had a cassette tape released to their credit.

His compositions for Gadhvi’s film Dhoom were a huge success. Dhoom’s title tune, which was released in two languages – Hindi (by Sunidhi Chauhan) and English (by Tata Young) – broke down geographical barriers, becoming well-known in pubs across the UK, the United States, and East Asia, and earning him a Zee Cine Award for Best Track of the Year.

Pritam’s Achievements & Bollywood Journey :

For the song “Mauja Hi Mauja” from Imtiaz Ali’s Jab We Met, he got his second Zee Cine Award for Best Track of the Year. His first Apsara Award for Best Music Director went to Jab We Met. Pritam Chakraborty composed the music for two additional Imtiaz Ali films, Love Aaj Kal and Cocktail, both of which were critically and commercially successful and earned him a slew of awards and nominations.

Pritam went on to write music for Barfi!, which earned him two Filmfare Awards. Barfi is largely regarded as one of his most well-received soundtrack albums.

Race 2, Murder 3, Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani, Dhoom 3 and Once Upon a Time in Mumbai Dobaara, his 100th film as a music director in Bollywood, were among his credits by 2013. Yaariyan, Shaadi Ke Side Effects, and Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty were among his first compositions in 2014.

Pritam has composed musical numbers (songs) for over a hundred Bollywood films during the course of his nearly two-decade career. He has received numerous awards, including 5 Filmfare Awards, 4 Zee Cine Awards, 4 Star Screen Awards, 3 IIFA Awards, and 3 ITA Awards.
