A R Rahman’s Biography :

Allah Rakha Rahman Commonly known as A R Rahman is an Indian Singer, composer and song writer who works predominately in Hindi and Tamil films.

A R Rahman was born on January 6, 1967 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. His birth name was A.S Dileep kumar. His father’s name was R. K. Shekhar and his Mother’s name was Kareema Beegum. His father expired when he was only 9 years old. He used to play his father’s keyboard to earn money.

He did his schooling at Padma Seshadri Bal Bhavan, Chennai and after that he did his graduation degree in Western Classical Music from Trinity College of Music, Oxford University, United Kingdom.

A R Rahman Debut as a music director was for a Tamil film name Roja. Rahman won the National film Award for the Best music Director for Roja at the National Film Awards. Then he setup his recording Studio “Panchathan Record Inn” in his backyard. It then became the most advanced recording studio in India.

In 1997 Rahman received his second National film award for best music director and a south Filmfare Award for best music direction. Rahman’s composition For Jodhaa Akbar was nominated for a best composer Asian film Award at the Hong Kong International Film Festival in 2007. He also won an academic award in 2009 for best original song for Jai Ho. Though he loves to compose music of all genres, romantic is his favourite.

His wife’s name is Saira Banu, with whom he has two daughters named Khatija and Rahima ,and a son named Ameen.
